Engineering Curiosity: From the Lab to the Pool

June 17, 2025

Curiosity has always been the driving force in my life. Whether diving into the depths of the swimming pool or the complexities of bacterial DNA, I thrive in spaces where challenges demand both persistence and creativity.

The Language of Adaptability

My transition into French immersion during the pandemic taught me resilience. Starting with almost no background, I built fluency by creating an international French-learning community of 2,000+ members. That experience showed me how adaptability, collaboration, and persistence can unlock new worlds of understanding.

Lessons from the Pool

As a water polo player and coach, I learned that teamwork outweighs individual brilliance. I began as a solo-minded player but grew into a captain and mentor, building a culture of inclusion and earning national medals alongside my teammates. Coaching younger athletes taught me that leadership is about lifting others, not standing above them.

Curiosity as a Compass

My research journey began when my grandfather suffered from an antibiotic-resistant infection. That experience inspired me to study biomedical engineering at the University of Calgary, where I investigated DNA inversions and antimicrobial resistance. Research gave me both technical skills and a deep sense of responsibility to solve problems that matter.

Conclusion

At my core, I’m someone who blends science, sport, and adaptability. Whether in the lab or in the pool, I strive to connect people, tackle challenges, and leave a lasting impact.
